Terms of Service
The rules for Iktinah accounts, optional cloud services, collaboration, and paid plans.
01Agreement and operator
These Terms form a contract between you and Amayx, the Saudi business that operates Iktinah. They apply to iktinah.com, Iktinah accounts, hosted sync and collaboration, and any paid service presented at checkout. By creating an account or using a hosted feature, you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter this contract. If you use Iktinah for an organisation, you confirm that you may bind it. The open-source Zotero plugin is also governed by its repository licence; that licence controls the source code where it conflicts with these Terms.
02The service and your choices
Iktinah provides research-workspace tools, including a locally usable Zotero plugin and optional hosted account, sync, storage, sharing, collaboration, and plan-management features. Feature availability and documented limits depend on the current plan and release capabilities shown in the product.
You decide what to sync, upload, share, or send to an AI provider. Bring-your-own-provider requests are made under your relationship with that provider. We may improve or discontinue non-essential features, but will give reasonable notice where a change materially reduces a paid service.
03Accounts and security
Provide accurate account information, keep credentials and recovery material secure, and promptly update your details. One person may not impersonate another, bypass access controls, share credentials in a way that compromises security, or create accounts through automated abuse.
You are responsible for activity authorised through your account and collaborators you invite. Tell [email protected] promptly about suspected unauthorised access. We may require verification before restoring access or acting on sensitive requests.
04Your content and permissions
You retain ownership of research content and other material you submit. You grant Amayx a limited, worldwide permission to host, copy, transmit, secure, back up, and display that content only as needed to operate Iktinah, follow your sharing choices, comply with law, and protect the service. This permission ends when the content is deleted, subject to backups and legally required retention.
You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed for submitted content, including personal data and copyrighted works. Collaboration and share-link settings can expose content to others; review them before sharing.
05Acceptable use
Do not use Iktinah to break the law or another person's rights; upload malware; obtain unauthorised access; evade rate, quota, payment, or security controls; interfere with service availability; scrape private data; send spam; or use the service to create or distribute unlawful, deceptive, or abusive material. Do not use automated high-volume access except through an interface we expressly document for that purpose.
We may investigate suspected misuse, limit affected functionality, remove unlawful content, or suspend an account when reasonably necessary. When appropriate, we will explain the reason and provide a way to appeal through support.
06Plans, payment, and renewal
Prices, currency, billing interval, included usage, taxes, renewal terms, and the total payable amount are displayed before an order is submitted and form part of your order. Paid checkout remains unavailable until required operator and tax details have been verified and configured.
Secure payment. Payments for Iktinah are collected by Amayx, the legal operator of this service. The name AMAYX may appear on your payment statement.
For a recurring plan, you authorise the disclosed amount to be collected at each interval until cancellation. We will provide an electronic receipt or invoice after verified payment. You can cancel future renewal in billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period unless a refund is due under the Refund and Cancellation Policy or mandatory law. Failed payments may lead to a grace period followed by plan restriction.
07Third-party services
Iktinah interoperates with Zotero, authentication providers, payment services, infrastructure providers, and AI providers you choose. Their services are independently governed and may change or become unavailable. Amayx is responsible for Iktinah itself and for selecting processors with appropriate contractual safeguards, but not for an independent third-party product or your separate account with it.
08Availability, warranties, and liability
We use reasonable care and skill to provide the hosted service and will honour any service description or mandatory consumer guarantee that applies. Because software and research outputs can contain errors, you must verify important citations, analyses, exports, and AI-generated material. Iktinah is not professional legal, medical, financial, or academic-integrity advice.
To the maximum extent law allows, neither party is liable for indirect or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the contract began. Amayx's aggregate liability arising from a paid service is limited to the fees you paid for that service in the 12 months before the event. This limit does not apply where exclusion is prohibited, including fraud, wilful misconduct, or liability that mandatory consumer law does not allow us to limit.
09Suspension, termination, and data
You may stop using Iktinah and request account deletion. Before deletion, export any data you need. We may suspend or terminate access for a material breach, serious security risk, unlawful use, or prolonged non-payment. Except in urgent cases, we will provide notice and a reasonable opportunity to remedy a remediable breach.
After termination, access ends and data is handled under the Privacy Policy. Terms that must logically continue—including payment obligations, ownership, licence limits, disclaimers, liability, dispute terms, and record retention—survive.
10Saudi law, disputes, and changes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Courts with jurisdiction in Saudi Arabia may hear disputes, without removing any non-waivable consumer right to use another competent authority or court. First send a detailed notice to [email protected]; both sides will try in good faith to resolve it.
We may update these Terms for legal, security, or service changes. Material changes will be notified in advance where reasonably possible and will apply prospectively. If you do not accept a material change, you may stop using hosted services before it takes effect and cancel renewal.
These Terms, the policies linked here, and the order shown at checkout are the agreement for the relevant service. If one term is unenforceable, the remainder continues. A failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. See Legal information or contact [email protected].
